Recipe instructions

Step 1

Step 1
How to make a Thomas the Tank Engine cake? It is better to prepare mastic parts in advance, a day in advance, for example. This way they will dry out and keep their shape better. For the face of the train, you need to cut out two circles and roll three balls — a nose and cheeks. Place the balls in their places on the circle of the face, and make indentations in place of the eyes.

Step 2

Step 2
On the second circle, also make indentations in place of the eyes and a little deeper under the cheeks. Place the second face circle on top of the first.

Step 3

Step 3
Level it well and carefully.

Step 4

Step 4
Draw the mouth.

Step 5

Step 5
Make eyes, mouth and eyebrows from mastic and place everything in place. Seal the edge with a strip of mastic.

Step 6

Step 6
For the wheels, cut out 6 circles from mastic.

Step 7

Step 7
Also cut out 6 wheel rims from mastic.

Step 8

Step 8
Cut out thin strips and glue spoked wheels onto the circle.

Step 9

Step 9
Trim where the strips intersect.

Step 10

Step 10
Glue on the center and rim of the wheel.

Step 11

Step 11
The wheels can be additionally decorated with a small circle in the middle.

Step 12

Step 12
Make a whistle and a chimney for a train out of mastic.

Step 13

Step 13
Sculpt the remaining small parts: four windows, two buffers (back and front), two brackets. Leave all the parts to dry for a day.

Step 14

Step 14
For the sponge cake, melt the chocolate and butter in the microwave. Add cocoa and mix thoroughly. Beat eggs with powdered sugar with a mixer. Add powder gradually. Add the beaten eggs to the chocolate mixture and mix gently. Add flour sifted with baking powder. Mix first with a spatula, then beat with a mixer. Divide the dough into 4 parts. You should have 4 biscuits. Bake the biscuits for 20 minutes at 190C.

Step 15

Step 15
Cut the cooled biscuits lengthwise into two parts. From three parts, cut blanks 23 by 17 cm.

Step 16

Step 16
Lay out the base and make sides to support the filling.

Step 17

Step 17
Soak the sponge cake with sugar syrup and also brush with cherry jam.

Step 18

Step 18
Spread the cream, add berries and marshmallows.

Step 19

Step 19
Place a little more cream on top and smooth it out.

Step 20

Step 20
Place another 23 x 17 cm cake layer on top. Make another layer as in the previous steps. Cut three blanks measuring slightly more than half the length of the base. Lay out the workpiece as in the photo, make sides to support the filling.

Step 21

Step 21
Soak the cake with syrup, spread with jam, lay out cream, berries, marshmallows and top with another cake. Lay out another similar layer.

Step 22

Step 22
Place two layers of cake layers on top, half as long as the base.

Step 23

Step 23
For the engine cylinder, cut out three circles from the biscuit. Divide one circle in half.

Step 24

Step 24
Seal the semicircles and circles with cream. Place the semicircles on the second layer of the cake, and the circles on the first.

Step 25

Step 25
Cover the entire cake with mastic cream. Place the cake in the refrigerator until the cream hardens.

Step 26

Step 26
Roll out the mastic pancake to a sufficient size. Cover the train with mastic and smooth the mastic well on all bends and corners.

Step 27

Step 27
Using a thickener, glue the face and trim elements of the front of the locomotive.

Step 28

Step 28
At the base, along the entire perimeter of the locomotive, first glue a black strip of mastic, and above it a red one.

Step 29

Step 29
Stick 4 red stripes on top of the engine cylinder.

Step 30

Step 30
Glue all the small parts into their places — wheels and windows.

Step 31

Step 31
Glue the buffers to the front.

Step 32

Step 32
Glue the back buffers.

Step 33

Step 33
Glue the brackets in front.

Step 34

Step 34
Cut two holes in the top of the cylinder for the pipe and whistle.

Step 35

Step 35
Place the whistle and pipe into the holes. If necessary, you can place a holiday number on the roof of the train. The locomotive is ready to get on the rails and roll into the mouths of young drivers! Happy holiday!
