Recipe instructions

Step 1

Step 1
How to make millet with pumpkin? Prepare all the necessary ingredients. Porridge can be prepared with either water or milk — choose the liquid to your taste. Grind the pumpkin in any way convenient for you — on a grater, through a meat grinder, with a blender, or simply cut into small pieces. You will learn all the subtleties of choosing the method for preparing millet cereal by reading the article at the end of the recipe.

Step 2

Step 2
Rinse the millet thoroughly several times with cold and several times with hot water. The taste of the prepared dish directly depends on this stage, since poorly washed boiled millet is very bitter. Rinse the millet until the water in the container runs clear. If desired, you can soak the millet for several hours or overnight if you plan to cook the porridge in the morning.

Step 3

Step 3
Pour the washed cereal into a saucepan or cauldron. Choose a pan with a thick bottom, as it will better accumulate heat and the cereal will heat up evenly. An article about saucepans will help you choose the ideal pan, the link is at the end of the recipe.

Step 4

Step 4
Add salt, sugar, other spices or sweets to taste. You can use vanilla sugar and flavorings.

Step 5

Step 5
Pour in hot water. You may need more or less water depending on the size of the pan. Be guided by the fact that the water level should be 1-1.5 cm higher than the millet. Place the container with the cereal on the stove, bring to a boil, remove the foam. Reduce heat and boil millet for about 15 minutes, covered, over medium heat. If necessary, add a little more water.

Step 6

Step 6
Peel and rinse the pumpkin, grate it on a fine grater into a bowl.

Step 7

Step 7
Add the pumpkin mixture to the pan or cauldron with millet and mix gently. Boil for 5-10 minutes on low heat.

Step 8

Step 8
Let the prepared millet porridge with pumpkin “stand” under the lid for about 5 minutes with the heat turned off. You can add butter if you donʼt plan to place it directly on the plates.

Step 9

Step 9
Place the prepared dish into serving bowls.

Step 10

Step 10
Season millet porridge with pumpkin in water with melted or thick butter, honey or other sweet sauces — if desired. If you boil porridge with pumpkin without sugar, then serve it with cheese.
