Recipe instructions

Step 1

Step 1
How to fry catfish in a frying pan? Prepare your food. The fish is best chilled, or even better — freshly caught. It can be a whole fish, like mine, or ready-made fish fillets or steaks. We only need lemon juice from lemon, so you can use ready-made juice of this fruit. If you squeeze it directly from a lemon, then wash it with hot water first — this way you will get much more juice.

Step 2

Step 2
I had a whole catfish fish. So I cut off the tail, the head, gutted the carcass and then cut it into steaks. I repeat that you can separate the fillet or use ready-made ones.

Step 3

Step 3
Pour lemon juice over the fish — it will remove excess fishy smell. Although fresh fish practically does not smell like fish, it smells like a river. Leave to stand for 10 minutes.

Step 4

Step 4
Mix salt with flour. I cook according to a traditional recipe, and I use wheat flour. But for breading fish, you can also use other flour: rice, corn, whole grain. Thus, the taste of the finished dish will be different each time. Also at this stage, you can add your favorite spices and seasonings to the flour: allspice, dried dill, basil and others.

Step 5

Step 5
Wash the fish, dry it and coat it well on all sides in the flour mixture.

Step 6

Step 6
Heat the vegetable oil well in a thick-bottomed frying pan. The oil can be anything from olive to cottonseed, but preferably refined so that it does not burn when frying. Place the fish pieces into the heated oil. You can learn how to choose the right frying pan and oil for frying by reading articles on these topics. There are links to them at the end of this recipe under the steps.

Step 7

Step 7
Fry the fish on all sides, turning every 5 minutes, over medium heat until it is crispy and golden brown.

Step 8

Step 8
Serve the fish immediately after frying, while it is still very, very crispy. Bon appetit!
