Crab Stick Mice: Festive New Year’s Salad Appetizer

Crab snacks in the shape of mice for the New Yearʼs table! Nowadays, the tradition of preparing salads and snacks for the New Year’s table in the shape of the upcoming symbol of the year is in fashion. But at the same time, I don’t want to experiment with new ingredients. I suggest trying to make a salad with mouse-shaped crab sticks.

Recipe instructions

Step 1

Step 1
Prepare the specified products according to the list. Crab sticks (put one crab stick whole to the side) need to be frozen a little and grated on a fine grater. If they rub badly, chop them very finely. They didn’t rub well for me, so I grated some and chopped some very finely. Set aside 1/3 of the grated crab sticks and place the rest in a deep bowl.

Step 2

Step 2
Add cream cheese to the chopped crab sticks. Cream cheese can be replaced with processed cheese, but it will also need to be grated on a fine grater (freeze a little first to make it easier to grate).

Step 3

Step 3
Peel the boiled and cooled eggs from their shells and grate them on a fine grater. Add the chopped eggs to the bowl with the previously prepared ingredients.

Step 4

Step 4
Peel the garlic cloves and pass through a press, add to the salad. Grate the hard cheese on a fine grater and add it to the bowl and mix. Taste for salt and add salt if necessary. Place the prepared mixture in the refrigerator for half an hour. It will cool down and it will be easier to make mice out of it.

Step 5

Step 5
Cut thin strips from the crab stick — these will be the tails of the mice. Wash the fresh radishes and cut them thinly into slices, then cut them in half — these will be the mouse ears. Black peppercorns will imitate the nose and eyes. Just don’t forget to warn everyone about this so they don’t get eaten along with the mice! Divide the mass into 7 — 9 parts, roll each into a ball and shape into a pear. Roll each piece in the reserved crab shavings.

Step 6

Step 6
Insert radish ears, black pepper eyes and crab stick tails into each mouse. Place the prepared mice on a beautiful dish, add pieces of cheese and serve.
