Ingredients (12 portions)

Basic:

Sugar 1.5 cup
Wheat flour 2 cup
Butter (or margarine) 200 g
Cocoa 1 tbsp
Eggs 3 pc
Soda 1 tsp
Vanilla sugar to taste
Kefir (or sour cream) 1 cup

Recipe instructions

Step 1

Step 1
How to bake zebra in the oven? Prepare your food. They should preferably be at the same temperature, preferably room temperature.

Step 2

Step 2
Melt butter or margarine on the stove in a thick-bottomed bowl or in the microwave. To make the process faster, cut the butter into cubes.

Step 3

Step 3
In a deep bowl, beat the eggs with a whisk, gradually adding sugar and stirring. We donʼt need a fluffy mass, just a lightly beaten egg mixture.

Step 4

Step 4
Pour kefir into the eggs (can be replaced with sour cream), stir until smooth. Now carefully pour in the melted butter in a thin stream, stirring constantly.

Step 5

Step 5
Mix flour and soda. You can also sift the flour through a fine sieve to oxygenate it and add airiness. Add wheat flour to the egg-butter mixture, one heaped spoonful at a time, stirring each time. The result should be a homogeneous, glossy, not thick or runny dough.

Step 6

Step 6
Divide the resulting dough into 2 equal parts. Add cocoa and 1 tablespoon of boiled water (or milk) to one part and mix so that there are no lumps. Leave the second part as is.

Step 7

Step 7
Grease a baking dish with butter. You can cover it with oiled parchment, cutting it to the diameter of the mold, taking into account the sides. Place 1-2 tablespoons of each dough alternately in the middle of the pan. Alternate light and dark dough. I put the light one in first.

Step 8

Step 8
Now the dark dough goes onto the light one. It is better to place the spoon perpendicular to the shape, that is, vertically to the center — this way the stripes of the future zebra will turn out more even.

Step 9

Step 9
Place the light dough on the dark one again. And so on until the end.

Step 10

Step 10
Now, using the end of a spoon, a toothpick or the end of a knife, make a web pattern by drawing lines along the surface of the dough, from the edge to the middle or vice versa. First divide into 4 parts, then between them. Repeat 2 times. However, you can skip this step.

Step 11

Step 11
Bake the zebra cake in an oven preheated to 180 degrees for 30-40 minutes, depending on your oven. Be guided by how long it takes to bake simple pies, for example, charlotte. Check the readiness of the biscuit with a toothpick or the end of a knife. Also, the edges of the finished cake will lag behind the shape.

Step 12

Step 12
Leave the finished cake to cool. And after an hour or two, call everyone for tea. Bon appetit!
