Recipe instructions

Step 1

Step 1
How to fry a wheat tortilla in a frying pan? Prepare all the necessary ingredients. Prepare the dough for Lenten flatbreads. It will not be very tight, so the cakes will not break after baking in a dry frying pan. The main thing is to maintain proportions. Sift the flour into a bowl and mix it with salt. Thanks to sifting, the flour will be saturated with oxygen, and the cakes will turn out more tender.

Step 2

Step 2
Pour refined vegetable oil into the flour.

Step 3

Step 3
Mix flour and butter with a spoon. Pour in hot water at a temperature of 50-60 degrees. If you have nothing to measure the temperature of water with, you can simply boil it and let it cool for 5-6 minutes.

Step 4

Step 4
Start kneading the dough with a spoon.

Step 5

Step 5
When the dough thickens, transfer it to the table and continue kneading with your hands. If necessary, you can sift a little more flour onto the table. There is no need to knead for a long time, since dough in water “does not like” long contact with your hands. In total, it takes about 5 minutes to knead the dough from scratch. Form the dough into a ball, cover with film and let it rest for 15-20 minutes. During this time, gluten will develop in the flour, and the dough will become more elastic.

Step 6

Step 6
Divide the rested dough into 6 parts. Take one piece and roll it thinly into a flat cake with a rolling pin. If you were unable to roll out a neat round cake, you can place a plate of a suitable diameter on top and trim the edges. Also form cakes from the remaining dough — I got two more pieces. In total (including the trimmed dough) you will get 7-8 thin cakes.

Step 7

Step 7
Heat a frying pan over medium heat. Read about how to choose the perfect frying pan in a separate article, link at the end of the recipe. Place one tortilla at a time on a dry, preheated frying pan and fry on both sides for about 30 seconds. There is no need to overcook the cakes so that they do not dry out and break when folded. Immediately transfer the finished cakes into a plastic bag. This will make them soft. Bon appetit!
