Recipe instructions

Step 1

Step 1
How to make puff pastry envelopes with ham and cheese? Prepare your ingredients. You can use any cheese that melts well. Remove the dough (mine consists of two squares) from the freezer in advance. Remove the dough from the package and leave it for a few minutes at room temperature, then separate the plates from each other and leave for another 1-1.5 hours. You can use homemade dough. You will find the recipes after the last step.

Step 2

Step 2
Turn on the oven to 200 degrees in advance. Remove the selected ham from the packaging and cut into slices. The amount of ham and cheese in this recipe is, of course, a guide. Making these envelopes at home differs from store-bought ones in that we ourselves decide how much filling we will have.

Step 3

Step 3
Grate the selected cheese on a coarse grater.

Step 4

Step 4
Place the defrosted dough on a flat surface, cut each layer into four parts. It is better to use all the dough from the package, as it cannot be re-frozen. To make the puff pastries more fluffy, it is better not to roll out the dough, but if necessary, just stretch it slightly with your hands.

Step 5

Step 5
Place the egg in a separate bowl and beat lightly with a fork or whisk. Brush the edges of a piece of dough with egg for better gluing. Place a few pieces of ham in the middle of each square.

Step 6

Step 6
Sprinkle grated cheese on top of the ham. There are two ways to fold envelopes. You can bend opposite edges on one side only. This will make it look like an open envelope; the filling will be visible here, and if there is a lot of it, it may leak out.

Step 7

Step 7
In the second option, all edges are secured to each other. So the filling is not very visible and remains inside if you firmly fasten the edges together. Brush each envelope with egg and place on a baking sheet lined with baking paper. You can learn how to choose the right parchment from a separate article at the link at the end of the recipe. Place the baking sheet in an oven preheated to 200°.

Step 8

Step 8
Bake the envelopes with ham and cheese until golden brown. The exact time depends on your oven. Read about the operating features of various ovens at the link at the end of the recipe. Remove the envelopes from the oven and be sure to let them cool a little to evenly distribute the moisture. Bon appetit!
