Recipe instructions

Step 1

Step 1
How to bake a simple shortbread pie with cranberries and apples? Prepare the ingredients according to the list. Remove the butter from the refrigerator in advance; it should be at room temperature. It can be replaced with margarine as a cheaper product; such a replacement does not particularly affect the taste. I used 20% sour cream. Place softened and diced butter in a deep bowl.

Step 2

Step 2
Add sour cream to the butter.

Step 3

Step 3
Add sugar and a pinch of salt to balance the flavor.

Step 4

Step 4
Mix all ingredients with a spoon until smooth.

Step 5

Step 5
Add sifted wheat flour and soda, slaked with table vinegar, you can use ready-made baking powder. Read more about replacing baking soda with baking powder in a separate article at the link at the end of the recipe. Add a pinch of vanillin to create a pleasant aroma. Vanillin can be replaced with vanilla sugar. Read how to do this correctly in a separate article at the link after the recipe.

Step 6

Step 6
Knead the dough into an elastic and smooth dough; you don’t need to knead the shortbread dough with your hands for a long time, otherwise it will be tight and the products made from it will be hard. Wrap the dough in cling film and put it in the refrigerator for half an hour. Turn the oven on 180 degrees.

Step 7

Step 7
While the dough is resting, prepare the pie filling. Cranberries have a sour taste, so to ensure that the filling as a whole is moderately sour, it is better to use sweet apples. If the apples have a hard skin, it is better to remove it and cut out the seed pod. Cut the apple pulp into small pieces or slices.

Step 8

Step 8
Remove the “rested” dough from the refrigerator and divide it into two unequal parts. Roll out a larger piece of dough into a layer about 0.5 cm thick, the size of the pie pan. Grease a baking dish with butter and place the dough in it, forming small sides. Read about how to choose a baking dish in a separate article at the link at the end of the recipe.

Step 9

Step 9
Place cooked apples and washed, dried cranberries on the dough (frozen berries can be used). Sprinkle sugar on top of cranberries.

Step 10

Step 10
Use the remaining dough to make a lattice for decorating the pie; if desired, the pie can be decorated differently. To make the pie nice and rosy, brush it with beaten yolk. Place the pie in the oven preheated to 180 degrees for about 30 minutes.

Step 11

Step 11
The pie should be slightly browned on top. Remove the finished pie from the oven, cool slightly and serve. The exact time depends on your oven. You can learn about the operating features of ovens by reading a separate article, link at the end of the recipe. Bon appetit!
