Oven-Baked Meat, Potato, and Mushroom Casserole

Very tasty, juicy, appetizing, for dinner and for a holiday! Potatoes with meat and mushrooms in pots in the oven — this is a recipe for everyoneʼs favorite roast. When baked in pots, the meat turns out to be very soft and stewed, the potatoes are well baked and become crumbly. Mushrooms add flavor and aroma.

Basic:

Onion 1 pc

Sour cream 150 g
Hard cheese 100 g

How to make potatoes with meat and mushrooms in pots in the oven? Prepare your food. I took pork, but any other meat will do — beef, chicken, lamb, turkey. Choose meat with layers of fat, not lean, so the dish will turn out juicier. The mushrooms I have are champignons; any forest or dried mushrooms will also work.

Rinse the meat with cold water, dry and cut into pieces approximately 2 by 2 cm.

Clean the mushrooms from dirt and debris; washing them is not recommended, as they can absorb water and become watery. Cut into slices.

Peel the onion and cut into half rings or slightly smaller, depending on the size of the onion.

Wash the potatoes, peel and cut into large pieces, the same size as the meat.

Divide the potatoes into the pots in equal portions. Add a little salt. I advise you to take small pots, then the food will stew better and faster. My pots are 350 ml.

Heat 2 tablespoons of vegetable oil in a frying pan and place the meat in it.

Fry it briefly over high heat, the meat should change color and lightly brown. This will seal the meat juice inside and the meat will remain soft and juicy. At the very end, add salt and pepper, as well as any other seasonings to your taste.

Place the meat on top of the potatoes.

Pour the remaining oil into the same pan in which you fried the meat. Place mushrooms in it.

Fry the mushrooms briefly over medium heat. They will release a lot of juice. Add onions to mushrooms.

Fry the mushrooms and onions until golden brown and the liquid has evaporated. Salt them a little.

Place the top layer of mushrooms and onions in the pots. Place two tablespoons of sour cream in each pot and pour in a little water, 30 ml each. Instead of sour cream, you can put mayonnaise. But then salt all foods a little less, since mayonnaise already contains salt.

Sprinkle finely grated cheese on top. Alternatively, you can mix grated cheese and sour cream and spread the resulting mixture on top of the dish. This will give you a more tender crust on top. To avoid burning the cheese, you can sprinkle it on the potatoes not immediately, but after half an hour of cooking.

Cover the pots with lids. Bake in the oven at 200 degrees for about an hour. The exact time will depend on the features of your oven. You can serve potatoes in pots with meat and cheese straight from the oven, or you can do it in the usual way, by transferring the contents to a plate. Sprinkle the finished dish with chopped herbs.
