Recipe instructions

Step 1

Step 1
How to cook carp soup at home? First, prepare the necessary ingredients. You can take fresh or frozen fish. If you use frozen, you need to defrost it before cooking. Read about all the intricacies of proper defrosting in a separate article, link at the end of the recipe. You can replace and supplement the vegetable part to your taste. For preparation, it is better to use filtered or bottled water that is neutral in taste.

Step 2

Step 2
Gut the fish, remove scales and rinse well. Cut into portions. If you have a fish with a head, rinse it thoroughly and remove the gills. Rinse the fish well again. There should be no blood clots left in it, which will color the broth an ugly brown color.

Step 3

Step 3
Peel the potatoes and cut into medium cubes.

Step 4

Step 4
Peel the carrots and cut into strips.

Step 5

Step 5
Peel the onion and cut into cubes. If you or your children donʼt like onions, you can omit them from the soup at all, or add a whole onion at the very beginning and discard them at the end. The onion will boil and release its juices to the broth.

Step 6

Step 6
Rinse the rice until the water runs clear. You can replace rice with another grain, such as millet. The article at the link at the end of the recipe will help you choose rice for the soup.

Step 7

Step 7
Place rice, potatoes, carrots and onions in a saucepan. Pour in clean water. Bring the broth to a boil and simmer over low heat for about 15 minutes, skimming off any foam. Read at the end of the recipe for information on how to choose the ideal soup pot and correctly calculate the amount of water.

Step 8

Step 8
Add fish, bay leaves, peppercorns and salt to the pan. Cook, skimming off the foam, for about 20 minutes until done.

Step 9

Step 9
Pour carp soup with rice into plates, garnish with fresh herbs and serve. Bon appetit!
