Recipe instructions

Step 1

Step 1
How to make Chinese sweet and sour sauce with pineapples? Very fast and easy! First, prepare the necessary ingredients. Drain the syrup from a can of canned pineapple. Instead of table vinegar, you can use rice, apple, or grape vinegar, or replace vinegar with lemon juice. You can adjust the amount of vinegar and acidity of the sauce to your taste.

Step 2

Step 2
In a saucepan, combine ketchup, soy sauce, half of the pineapple syrup, vinegar and sugar. Place the saucepan on the stove over low heat and, stirring, bring the mixture to a boil.

Step 3

Step 3
Dissolve the starch in the remaining pineapple syrup, breaking up any lumps. You can replace the pineapple syrup with pineapple juice if you wish.

Step 4

Step 4
If you have canned pineapples in rings, cut them into small pieces. I had already chopped pineapples, which did not require additional chopping. I only cut some of the larger pieces in half.

Step 5

Step 5
Add the chopped pineapple pieces and heat everything together for 1 minute.

Step 6

Step 6
Stirring constantly, pour the starch diluted in pineapple syrup into the saucepan in a thin stream. The sauce will immediately begin to thicken. Bring the sauce back to a boil and cook, stirring, for 30 seconds. The sauce is quite viscous, but fluid. You can adjust the quantity and consistency of the sauce to your taste, if necessary, boiling it to the desired thickness or, conversely, diluting it with pineapple syrup or pineapple juice.

Step 7

Step 7
The sauce is ready. It can be served with meat, fish or poultry, chilled or warm. Bon appetit!
