Recipe instructions

Step 1

Step 1
How to make mackerel in a jar in the oven baked with onions? You can cook from both fresh and frozen fish. The recipe used frozen mackerel. First, defrost the fish at room temperature. Prepare onions, carrots, sour cream, bay leaves, a few black peppercorns and a pinch of salt.

Step 2

Step 2
Cut off the heads and tails of the mackerel. Don’t rush to throw them away; you can later use them to make an excellent fish broth for fish soup or soup. Remove the entrails and rinse the fish under running water. Cut the mackerel carcasses into pieces approximately two to three centimeters thick. Peel and wash the onions and carrots.

Step 3

Step 3
Cut the onion into rings or half rings (as you like), grate the carrots on a coarse grater, add salt and a little allspice to the sour cream, if desired.

Step 4

Step 4
Pour sour cream over the fish pieces and mix well.

Step 5

Step 5
Wash and dry the jar. Place onions and carrots on the bottom, then two or three pieces of mackerel. Repeat layers one at a time until you run out of ingredients. Make the last layer of onions and carrots.

Step 6

Step 6
Add peppercorns and bay leaves to the jar.

Step 7

Step 7
Close the top of the jar with an iron lid or wrap it with foil. Place the container with fish in a cold oven, turn on the “top-bottom” mode and bake for about an hour at a temperature of 190-200 degrees. The baking temperature may be higher or lower, depending on the capabilities of your oven.

Step 8

Step 8
Mackerel in a jar in the oven, baked with onions is ready. Remove the foil and, holding the jar with a towel so as not to get burned, remove the fish using a spoon or fork.

Step 9

Step 9
Serve mackerel hot; it is also very tasty cold.
