Recipe instructions

Step 1

Step 1
How to make a simple salad with tofu and tomatoes? First, prepare the ingredients for the dressing. Any vegetable oil will do, preferably fragrant, unrefined. I have olive. You can replace fresh garlic with 1/2 tsp. dry. If you wish, you can add a little liquid honey to the dressing.

Step 2

Step 2
In a bowl, combine olive oil, lemon juice, pressed garlic clove and salt. Beat everything until smooth.

Step 3

Step 3
Now prepare the ingredients for the salad. You can use any tomatoes — regular or cherry. You can add or replace the vegetable part and spices to your taste. Instead of tofu, you can use any cheese of your choice without frying, but please note that with another type of cheese the salad will not be lean.

Step 4

Step 4
Cut the tofu into medium cubes.

Step 5

Step 5
Place the soy cheese in a bag, add smoked paprika, ground black pepper and salt. Tie the bag and shake to distribute the spices evenly throughout the cheese.

Step 6

Step 6
Heat the vegetable oil in a frying pan over medium heat and, stirring, fry the tofu until golden brown. Read about how to choose the perfect frying pan, as well as how to choose the right oil for frying, in separate articles, links at the end of the recipe.

Step 7

Step 7
Wash the tomatoes, dry and cut into slices. If you have cherry tomatoes, cut them into halves. Tomatoes need to be juicy but firm. Soft fruits do not hold their shape well; during cutting and cooking, they will spread into a shapeless mass and spoil the appearance of the dish.

Step 8

Step 8
Peel the red onion and cut into thin rings or half rings.

Step 9

Step 9
Cut the avocado in half and remove the pit. Peel each half and cut into small pieces. It is important to peel the avocados in this order. After all, avocado contains essential oils and after removing the peel the fruit becomes slippery. You may cut yourself when cutting it in half.

Step 10

Step 10
In a bowl, combine tomatoes, avocado, red onion and tofu. Pour dressing over salad and toss to coat.

Step 11

Step 11
Garnish the salad with fresh herbs and serve immediately. Bon appetit!
