Russian-Style Okonomiyaki Recipe

An easy way to make a quick and healthy snack! This is rather a Russian version of Japanese “fast food”, which is a fried flatbread with different fillings. In Japan, okonomiyaki is topped with a special sauce and sprinkled with katsuobushi. Our housewives interpreted this dish to suit Russian cuisine.

Ingredients (2 portions)

Basic:

Salt 1 tsp
Wheat flour 4 tbsp
Water 200 ml
Eggs 1 pc
Green onions 25 g
Parsley to taste
White cabbage 100 g
Vegetable oil (for frying) 2 tbsp
Pork 100 g
Champignon 50 g
bell pepper (red) 0.5 pc
Soy sauce 2 tbsp
Sauce, pasta (for serving (Worcestershire sauce, mayonnaise) 4 tsp

Recipe instructions

We prepare all the ingredients for making “Japanese pizza”.

Chop the white cabbage very finely into cubes.

Cut the green onion feathers into small rings.

Pour water into a bowl, add salt, beat in a chicken egg and add flour sifted through a sieve. Mix the dough thoroughly with a whisk so that there are no lumps.

Pour soy sauce into the dough and whisk again. The consistency of the dough should resemble sour cream.

Pour shredded cabbage and green onions into a bowl and stir.

Roughly chop the pork, champignons, bell peppers and parsley in any shape. We divide the products into 2 parts.

Lightly fry the first half of the prepared products in vegetable oil until the meat is cooked.

Fill the fried filling with half of the dough, form a small flat cake, cover with a lid and cook for 15 minutes over low heat. For convenience, you can use a small-diameter frying pan, then the cake will turn out to have a more regular round shape.

After 15 minutes, turn the okonomiyaki over. For convenience, use a plate, close the pan again with a lid and cook over low heat for another 10 minutes.

We do the same procedure with the remaining ingredients. You should get 2 “pizzas”. Place warm okonomiyaki on plates and top with sauces. You can use soy sauce, ketchup, mayonnaise. Sprinkle green onions on top, cut into pieces and serve in portions.
