Steamed Spicy Wontons: A Unique Twist on a Chinese Classic

Original, spicy, unusual taste and design. Wontons are a famous dish in Chinese cuisine. They are similar to dumplings, they are minced meat wrapped in dough. Wontons can be steamed or deep-fried. I suggest you try the steam version, which is suitable for everyone — both children and adults.

Recipe instructions

Step 1

Step 1
How to make wontons? Prepare your food. You can use either ready-made or home-made minced chicken. If you canʼt find fresh ginger, take it in powder form. Wash and dry the greens.

Step 2

Step 2
First prepare the filling. How to make the filling? Finely chop the bacon and add it to the minced meat. Peel a small piece of ginger root (2x2 cm), then grate it into minced meat on a fine grater. Pepper and salt. Keep in mind that soy sauce will also be added, do not add too much salt.

Step 3

Step 3
Finely chop a few green onions and parsley sprigs. Add to the minced meat. Pour in soy sauce.

Step 4

Step 4
Separate the protein from the egg. Add the white to the minced meat too, leave the yolk for now, it will be useful later. Knead the minced meat well until smooth. The filling is ready.

Step 5

Step 5
Prepare the dough. How to make the dough? Boil the water. Sift the flour into a bowl. While constantly stirring, pour boiling water into the flour, add salt and butter. Knead the dough. Be prepared that you may need more or less flour than indicated in the recipe. Focus not on the amount of flour, but on the desired consistency of the dough.

Step 6

Step 6
The dough turns out very elastic and soft, let it rest in a plastic bag for about 30 minutes.

Step 7

Step 7
Sprinkle the board with starch. Divide the dough into sausages, which then cut crosswise. Roll out each piece very thinly into a very round shape. This dough allows you to roll out the flatbread very thinly, literally until transparent. On each succulent, draw a circle with yolk — as in the photo.

Step 8

Step 8
Place the filling in the center and seal the edges with a bag, leaving the top open — thatʼs what the yolk was for, it will stick the dough together. This is how the blanks for steam wontons are formed; if you are going to fry them, then glue the bags tightly.

Step 9

Step 9
Place the wontons on a steamer greased with sunflower oil and place over boiling water. Steam the wontons for 15 minutes. They can also be cooked in an electric steamer or slow cooker.

Step 10

Step 10
Serve the finished wontons immediately, hot, with soy sauce. Bon appetit!
