Recipe instructions

Step 1

Step 1
How to make French-style beef and potatoes? Very simple. To begin, prepare all the necessary ingredients. You can use any cheese and mayonnaise you like. Wash and dry the potatoes.

Step 2

Step 2
Peel the garlic and pass through a press. If the garlic cloves are small, you can use a little more so that there is enough for all the meat.

Step 3

Step 3
Cut the beef into slices no more than 1 cm thick. You can use the pulp from any part of the carcass, but it is advisable that it does not contain large hard veins. I have thigh meat. To make it more convenient to cut the meat into slices, I placed it in the freezer for 1.5 hours. Instead of a whole piece, you can take portioned sliced beef.

Step 4

Step 4
Beat the meat thoroughly with a hammer. Salt and pepper the beef and rub with chopped garlic.

Step 5

Step 5
Peel the potatoes and cut into slices.

Step 6

Step 6
Lightly salt and pepper the potatoes, add 1 tbsp. l. mayonnaise and mix.

Step 7

Step 7
Peel the onion and cut into thin rings.

Step 8

Step 8
Grate the cheese on a coarse or medium grater.

Step 9

Step 9
Place half of the potatoes in a baking dish greased with vegetable oil (mine is 28 cm in diameter). In general, in different recipes the layers are laid out in different sequences. I prefer that some or all of the potatoes are under the meat — then they will be well saturated with meat juices.

Step 10

Step 10
Spread the beef on top of the potatoes in a single layer.

Step 11

Step 11
Brush the meat with the remaining mayonnaise.

Step 12

Step 12
Spread the onions on top.

Step 13

Step 13
Place the remaining potatoes on the onions.

Step 14

Step 14
Sprinkle grated cheese on top. Place the mold in an oven preheated to 180°C for 45-50 minutes. The exact time depends on the features of your oven. If the cheese has begun to brown and the meat and potatoes are not yet ready, cover the pan with foil. Be careful not to let the foil touch the cheese layer, otherwise all the cheese will stick to the foil.

Step 15
A delicious potato and beef dish is ready. Bon appetit!
