Recipe instructions

Step 1

Step 1
How to bake a simple orange pie in the oven? Prepare all the necessary ingredients. Since almost all of the orange goes into the pie, it needs to be washed thoroughly. This must be done with a brush and hot water. To be on the safe side, I also wash them with laundry soap and rinse them thoroughly, who knows what kind of hands they went through. Immediately turn on the oven to preheat to 180 degrees.

Step 2

Step 2
Wipe the orange dry and grate the zest on a fine grater on one side. On the other side, cut the zest and cut into thin strips. The zest must be cut very thin without the white part, which imparts bitterness.

Step 3

Step 3
Cut off the white part of the remaining orange and cut out segments without membranes. Cut the cut pulp into medium pieces. The rest can simply be eaten or added to compote. Of course, you can simply clean it by hand, take it apart into segments and remove the film from each. But then the cooking time will double.

Step 4

Step 4
Carefully separate the yolks from the whites. Not a single drop of yolk should get into the whites, otherwise the whites will not whip up in the future. Place the whites in a clean, dry mixer bowl and put them in the refrigerator for now. Combine the yolks with half the sugar and grind into foam until white. This can be done either with a hand whisk or with a mixer.

Step 5

Step 5
Beat the chilled egg whites with a pinch of salt with a mixer into a fluffy foam. Continuing to beat, gradually add sugar and beat until smooth and dense. Read about all the nuances of whipping egg whites in a separate article at the link at the end of the recipe.

Step 6

Step 6
Place grated zest into the beaten egg whites.

Step 7

Step 7
Add the ground yolks to the bowl with the whites and zest.

Step 8

Step 8
Sift the flour through a fine sieve directly into the bowl with the beaten eggs and zest. Thanks to sifting, the flour will be saturated with oxygen, and the finished cake will turn out fluffier and airier.

Step 9

Step 9
Now carefully mix everything with a spatula to leave the air with which we saturated the masses. You need to do this from the bottom up, as if folding the dough up. Stir until smooth.

Step 10

Step 10
Add the orange slices and stir gently again.

Step 11

Step 11
Grease a silicone or Teflon-coated metal mold with vegetable oil. Place the biscuit mixture into it and smooth it out. I have a mold with a diameter of 18 cm. You can use one with a diameter of 16 or 20 cm. Be careful! The height of the cake also depends on the size of the mold, so the baking time may change up or down. Read about how to choose a baking dish in a separate article at the link at the end of the recipe.

Step 12

Step 12
Bake the orange pie at 180 degrees for about 25-30 minutes. The exact time depends on your oven. You can learn about the operating features of ovens by reading a separate article, link at the end of the recipe. The top should be light brown and the cake should be firm when pressed. And if you stick a wooden skewer into the middle of the cake, it should remain dry when you remove it.

Step 13

Step 13
Remove the finished cake from the oven and leave in the pan for about 10 minutes. Then remove it from the mold and let it cool completely. Transfer the pie to a large platter and sprinkle with powdered sugar and chopped zest if desired.

Step 14

Step 14
Serve orange pie with tea, coffee or just milk. This orange cake can serve as the basis for many other desserts and baked goods. Oranges can be replaced with lemons or tangerines, as well as fresh berries or fruits. Well, if you cut this cake into 2-3 parts and coat it with cream, you will get a wonderful cake.

Step 15

Step 15
Bon appetit!
