How to make stewed cabbage with beef in a saucepan? To begin, prepare the necessary ingredients according to the list. You can take any meat: pork, beef, lamb, as well as chicken or turkey. Also choose a part of the carcass according to your taste. I have boneless beef shoulder. The tomato sauce in this recipe can be replaced with chopped fresh tomatoes or tomato paste.

Remove the top damaged leaves from the cabbage and remove the stalk. Shred the cabbage. Please note that during the stewing process, all excess liquid will evaporate from the cabbage and the volume of the cabbage itself will be less than at the beginning. To make the dish more filling, you can add diced potatoes to the cabbage.

Wash the beef and dry it. Cut into medium pieces.

Peel the carrots and cut into cubes. Keep in mind that the final result in this dish depends on how you chop the carrots: grated carrots during heat treatment will turn into pulp and mix evenly with the rest of the ingredients; cut into strips or cubes will retain their shape.

Peel the onion and cut into half rings.

Heat vegetable oil in a heavy-bottomed saucepan over high heat. Place the meat and fry, stirring, until golden brown. Add salt at the end. Pour about 200ml hot water into the pan until the meat is half covered. Simmer covered over low heat for about 1 hour until the beef is tender. Add onions and carrots to the meat. Simmer over low heat, covered, for about 10 minutes until soft.

Add cabbage to the pan. Simmer, stirring, for about 15-20 minutes until the cabbage is soft. Times are approximate.

Place tomato sauce in a saucepan. Fry, stirring, 1-2 minutes.

Pour in 100 ml of hot water. Salt and pepper everything, add bay leaves and mix. Simmer covered until the cabbage is ready. It took me about 15 minutes.
