Basic:

Salt to taste
Rice (round grain) 250 g
Vegetable oil 10 g
Mayonnaise 3 tbsp
Chicken fillet 200 g
Sauce, pasta (sweet chili sauce) 1.5 tbsp
Nori (2 sheets) 10 g
Rice vinegar 50 ml

Recipe instructions

Step 1

Step 1
How to make gunkan sushi? Prepare all ingredients. Rinse the rice well to remove any starch it contains. Place the rice in a saucepan and add water (1:2). Bring water to a boil, add a little salt. Cook the rice over low heat with the lid closed for 15-20 minutes. Turn off the heat and do not open the lid for another 10 minutes. During this time, the rice will reach the desired consistency. Cool the finished rice, add rice vinegar to it and stir.

Step 2

Step 2
While the rice is cooking, you can cook the chicken in the sauce. To do this, mix mayonnaise with sweet chili sauce. I use homemade. The amounts of chili sauce can be adjusted to suit your taste.

Step 3

Step 3
Wash the chicken fillet, dry it, chop it finely and fry, stirring occasionally, for 3 minutes in a frying pan with a small amount of vegetable oil. Place the chicken in the previously prepared sauce and mix all ingredients well.

Step 4

Step 4
Cut the nori into strips. The width of one strip is approximately 3 cm. For 2 servings I needed 10 such strips. Please note that the rice will need to be placed on the rough side of the nori.

Step 5

Step 5
Wet your hands in water. This is done so that the rice does not stick to your hands. Take a portion of rice (about 25 grams). Using your hands, form this rice into something like a block and place it on a strip of nori in the center. Please note that the rice should not completely cover the entire width of the strip! You need to leave some space for the filling. Place 1-2 grains of rice on one edge of the nori.

Step 6

Step 6
Form the gunkan and use the grains of rice to join the edges of the nori. Use your hands to give them the correct shape. The base is ready. Form all the gunkans in this manner.

Step 7

Step 7
Place the filling in each gunkan. Cover a baking sheet with foil and place the gunkans on it.

Step 8

Step 8
Place the gunkans in the oven on the grill mode and cook for about 4 minutes. As a result, the gunkans will have a very beautiful ruddy top.

Step 9

Step 9
Serve gunkan with soy sauce, wasabi and ginger. Bon appetit!
