Slow Cooker Steamed Dumplings

Even without a stove, you can enjoy your favorite dish! Steamed dumplings in a slow cooker are no different from traditional ones boiled in water. They are just as delicious, especially served with fried onions. The dough will not fall apart with this treatment, and you can use yesterday’s puree for the filling.

Recipe instructions

Step 1

Step 1
How to steam delicious dumplings with potatoes in a slow cooker? Prepare your food. I will have dumplings with potatoes, so I used ready-made mashed potatoes as a filling. You can boil it to your liking or use the leftovers from last nightʼs dinner. But in general, besides potatoes, any other filling will do; the only difference will be the steaming time.

Step 2

Step 2
First of all, knead the dough for steamed dumplings. Pour flour into a bowl, add salt to it, stir. Beat the egg on top.

Step 3

Step 3
Start kneading the dough, gradually pouring warm milk into it. You can use water instead of milk. When it becomes inconvenient to stir with a fork, start kneading with your hands. Now you will understand what needs to be added to the dough, liquid or flour. If it is very steep, then pour in a little more milk; if it is too sticky, then add flour.

Step 4

Step 4
At the end of kneading, you should have a smooth, homogeneous dough that practically does not stick to your hands. Gather the dough into a ball, cover with a napkin and leave to lie on the table for 15 minutes — during this time, the remaining liquid will be absorbed and gluten will develop in the flour, which is responsible for elasticity. As a result, the dough will be easier to work with.

Step 5

Step 5
Roll out the rested dough on a table dusted with flour into a thin layer. It will be more convenient to roll it out in parts.

Step 6

Step 6
Using a suitable glass, cut out circles from the entire dough.

Step 7

Step 7
Place the filling in the center of the circles. Mold the edges of the dumplings in half, decorate the edge with a pigtail — this way the dumplings will not fall apart.

Step 8

Step 8
Pour water into the multicooker bowl, add bay leaf and peppercorns. Place a steam tray in the bowl. Lubricate it with a drop of vegetable oil. Place dumplings on the bottom in one layer so that they do not touch each other. You can also steam dumplings in a double boiler, pressure cooker, or build a steamer from a saucepan and a colander.

Step 9

Step 9
Set a program suitable for steaming; I call it “Steaming”. Yours may have a different name depending on the multicooker model. Set the time to 20 minutes. Cook the dumplings with the lid closed until the signal, then remove and add the next batch. The time is approximate, as it will depend on the size of the dumplings and the operating characteristics of your multicooker. Read more about multicookers at the end of the recipe.

Step 10

Step 10
While the dumplings are cooking, fry the onion in vegetable oil until golden brown.

Step 11

Step 11
Serve dumplings with fried onions and sour cream. Bon appetit!
