Flavorful Vegetable Stewed Rice

A delicious dish for a Lenten table or as a side dish! Stewed rice is prepared almost the same way as pilaf, only no meat is added to it. Pre-frying makes the rice fluffy and the vegetables give it a beautiful color and flavor. In addition to carrots and onions, you can add any vegetables to rice.

Basic:

Onion 1 pc
Salt to taste
Ground black pepper to taste

How to make steamed rice in a frying pan? Prepare food for. Any rice will do, both round and long grain. You can even take steamed one, only then cook it according to the time and proportions indicated on the package. The article at the link at the end of the recipe will help you with choosing rice. In addition to onions and carrots, you can take green beans, bell peppers, corn, and peas. Any spices of your choice will also work.

Peel the onion and cut into small cubes.

Grate the peeled carrots on a coarse grater.

Heat a frying pan over medium heat, pour vegetable oil into it for frying. Place chopped onions and carrots in heated oil. Fry them, stirring, for 5-7 minutes until golden brown. If you use other vegetables, add them after frying the onions and carrots. And fry everything together for about 5 more minutes. Add well-washed rice to the vegetables. Fry the cereal along with the vegetables, stirring, for a couple of minutes. During this time, each grain of rice will be coated in oil, which is why the rice will not stick together when stewing. If you donʼt like fluffy rice, skip this step.

Pour clean cold water into the pan. See the packaging of your rice for water proportions. The standard ratio is 1:2, that is, two glasses of water per glass of rice. Salt and pepper the dish on top. Add your favorite spices if desired. Do not stir the rice!!! Cover the pan with a lid and reduce heat to low.

Simmer the rice until the water is completely absorbed. This will take 15-20 minutes, depending on the type and volume of rice. Then turn off the heat and leave the dish covered for another 10 minutes. During this time, the remaining water will be completely absorbed and the rice will be ready. Just stir the rice now.
