Ingredients (2 portions)

Basic:

Salt to taste
Ground hot pepper to taste
Bulb onions 50 g
Khmeli-suneli 1.5 tsp
Sunflower oil 2 tbsp
Red beans (Pre-soaked overnight) 200 g

Recipe instructions

Step 1

Step 1
How to fry beans and onions? Soak red beans in water in advance, preferably overnight. The beans should be well soaked and swollen; their skin may even burst. But this is not necessary and directly depends on the variety. This time I soaked the beans for fourteen hours!

Step 2

Step 2
Peel the onions and chop them into small cubes. Heat sunflower oil in a frying pan and fry the onion until golden brown.

Step 3

Step 3
Drain the red beans in a colander, rinse in running water and let the water drain. Add the beans to the pan with the onions. Fry for seven minutes over medium heat.

Step 4

Step 4
Salt the dish to taste and add khmeli-suneli seasoning. This Caucasian seasoning goes well with beans. Especially with red. If desired, you can add other favorite spices or seasonings.

Step 5

Step 5
Add water to the pan and reduce heat to low. Simmer the beans with the lid closed for half an hour, stirring occasionally. It may take more time, in any case, the beans should become soft when broken with a spatula. If required, you can add boiling water to the pan during cooking.
