Oven-Baked Black Pepper and Basil Croutons

A simple and delicious addition to salads and soups! In many families, croutons are always served as first courses. Some salad recipes also require the presence of an ingredient such as croutons. They can be purchased at the store. But why overpay for something that can be made from ordinary bread, using your favorite seasonings and spices, and get a natural and fresh product. In addition, the bread croutons are so tasty that they are often eaten like seeds. Toasts can be made from white or black bread. Black bread makes thicker croutons, the kind men prefer with beer.

Recipe instructions

Step 1

Step 1
Letʼs prepare the ingredients for white bread croutons. The flavors of garlic, sweet paprika, ground black pepper and salt are perfect for these croutons. Dried basil will add a zest to the taste of the crouton. You only need a little bit to get a great flavor.

Step 2

Step 2
It is better to use yesterdayʼs bread, slightly dried out, so that it does not crumble when you start cutting it with a knife. Cut the bread into slices of equal thickness and cut them into small cubes.

Step 3

Step 3
Pour olive oil into a bowl. Pass the garlic through a press or grate it on a fine grater. Add garlic, sweet paprika, chopped dried basil, freshly ground black pepper and salt to taste. Stir the mixture.

Step 4

Step 4
Pour the prepared bread into the bowl with the sauce. Mix it with your hands or a spoon so that all the bread cubes are covered with the sauce. Place the croutons on a baking sheet (you can line it with parchment so that after baking you don’t have to wash off any remaining oil).

Step 5

Step 5
Preheat the oven to 170 degrees. Place the baking sheet with croutons in the oven. Dry them for about 5 minutes. Then take out the baking sheet, carefully, so as not to burn yourself, stir the croutons with a spatula so that they dry evenly.

Step 6

Step 6
Place the baking sheet with croutons back into the oven. We repeat the procedure again so that the croutons brown evenly. Remove the tray with croutons from the oven. Let them cool on the baking sheet. Transfer to a bowl and serve.

Step 7

Step 7
Such croutons should be stored in glass jars, tightly closed with lids. But still, you shouldn’t store them for a long time, because unlike ordinary crackers, they are soaked in oil, which can become rancid if stored for a long time. Bon appetit!
