Forshmak is a Jewish dish based on herring. This cold appetizer has become popular and loved in many countries. Depending on preference, different additives are added, but the basics remain the same.

Ingredients (6 portions)

Basic:

Apples 1 pc
Lemon juice 1 tbsp
Water 2 tbsp
Pepper to taste
Bulb onions 1 pc
Vegetable oil 1 tbsp
Chicken eggs 2 pc
Herring (lightly salted) 1 pc
loaf (2 pieces of white stale loaf) to taste

Recipe instructions

Fillet the herring or take ready-made fillets. Boil eggs for 10 minutes, peel.

Cut the onion into half rings, pour in lemon juice and crush a little/leave to marinate for 5 minutes /. Peel the apple, remove the core. Pour 2-3 tablespoons evenly over the stale loaf. water, leave to soak for a couple of minutes.

Load herring, apple, onion, loaf, 1 tbsp into a blender. vegetable oil, pepper /optional/ — chop.

Place everything in a bowl, add grated eggs, mix, beating until smooth. Place in the refrigerator for an hour.
