Recipe instructions

Step 1

Step 1
How to make salted salmon at home? Prepare all the necessary products. Take chilled salmon — such fish contains much more useful substances than frozen fish. If you have frozen fish, defrost it first. You will learn how to do this correctly by reading the article at the end of the recipe. It is better to use coarse salt, mainly sea salt.

Step 2

Step 2
Mix sugar and salt in a bowl.

Step 3

Step 3
Remove the backbone from the fish, if possible the bones along the backbone, and cut into two halves. It is best to take the central part of the fish for salting, the one that is thicker: it will cut perfectly, the pieces will be smooth and beautiful. I don’t remove the films on the fish before salting: I remove them after the fish is salted, and along with them the remaining salt and sugar.

Step 4

Step 4
Sprinkle half of the dry mixture generously on the inside of the fish. At this stage, you can add different seasonings and spices according to your taste: bay leaf, dill, and some people prefer lemon. I donʼt like adding extra flavors and aromas when salting fish. Especially salmon: its taste is already too noble to be filled with any additional flavor.

Step 5

Step 5
Place the fish pieces on top of each other, skin side up. Sprinkle the remaining salt on the skin side of the fish.

Step 6

Step 6
Place the salted fish in a container, cover and refrigerate for 14-16 hours. Some people think that fish in brine needs to be turned over. I never do this and everything turns out great!

Step 7

Step 7
Slice the finished fish thinly! It will go great on a sandwich or in a salad. Bon appetit!
