Recipe instructions

Step 1

Step 1
How to bake whole flounder in the oven? First of all, prepare all the necessary products according to the list. If you have frozen fish, remove it from the freezer in advance and leave it at room temperature until it is completely thawed. You will learn all the intricacies of defrosting by reading an article on this topic. There is a link to it at the end of this recipe.

Step 2

Step 2
Prepare the marinade. Pour soy sauce, vegetable oil and freshly squeezed lemon juice (about 1 teaspoon) into a deep small container. Peel the garlic, pass through a garlic press or chop as finely as possible by hand. Mix all liquid ingredients and garlic. You can add your favorite dry spices to the marinade to taste; a pinch of dry Provençal herbs was used in the recipe. Separate one teaspoon of marinade and set aside.

Step 3

Step 3
Gut the flounder and wash well. Next, there are two options for preparing the fish. First: remove the head, fins and cut off the skin. Second: peel the fish from scales on both sides, remove the gills and bake as is. I like the second option better, so more often I bake a whole carcass, cleared of scales.

Step 4

Step 4
Make several shallow cuts on the flounder, this way the marinade will maximally imbue the fish meat with aromas. Using a silicone brush, apply the marinade to the flounder.

Step 5

Step 5
Do the same on the other side.

Step 6

Step 6
Leave this way for 10-15 minutes so that the flounder marinates.

Step 7

Step 7
Place the carcass on a baking tray, pre-greased with vegetable oil or covered with baking paper. If you have vegetables on hand, I recommend sending them in small quantities to the flounder. Baked vegetables complement fish perfectly.

Step 8

Step 8
First, sprinkle the vegetables with spices, lightly salt and sprinkle with olive or vegetable oil. I used cocktail tomatoes and unpeeled garlic cloves. Green asparagus, small bell peppers, zucchini pieces, and so on are perfect.

Step 9

Step 9
Bake the fish in a preheated oven at 180 degrees for about 30 minutes. Please note that the time and temperature may differ from that indicated in the recipe, this depends on the capabilities of your oven. Read more about ovens in the article below the steps. Remove the finished flounder from the oven, pour over the marinade you left and sprinkle finely chopped herbs on top. Ready!
