Oven-Baked Turkey with Cabbage

A familiar dish made from ordinary products — even simpler and tastier! The cabbage and turkey simmer in the oven most of the time, soaking in the aroma of the seasonings. Tender vegetables and juicy meat under foil acquire a richer taste than stewed in a frying pan. And it’s convenient if you don’t have time to stand at the stove for a long time.

Recipe instructions

Step 1

Step 1
How to make cabbage with turkey in the oven? Prepare the necessary products. I used turkey breast fillet. You can take fillet from the thigh. Take unscented vegetable oil. Choose seasonings and spices to taste.

Step 2

Step 2
Peel the onion, wash it, cut it into small cubes or half rings.

Step 3

Step 3
Cut the pre-peeled carrots into thin slices.

Step 4

Step 4
Chop the cabbage into thin strips. At the same time, remove thickened and hard parts that appear in the leaves.

Step 5

Step 5
Wash the turkey fillet and dry well. Cut the fillet into small pieces.

Step 6

Step 6
Heat vegetable oil in a frying pan and add turkey pieces. Fry the meat over moderately high heat, stirring occasionally, until golden brown on all sides. The crust will seal the juices inside the pieces and keep them juicy.

Step 7

Step 7
Separately, fry the onions and carrots in vegetable oil, stirring.

Step 8

Step 8
When the vegetables are slightly soft, add the cabbage to the pan and stir. Keep the cabbage, stirring, over medium heat for 10-15 minutes so that it is soaked in the oil from the fried vegetables.

Step 9

Step 9
Salt the cabbage, add tomato paste and aromatic herbs, any spices to taste, mix well.

Step 10

Step 10
Grease a baking dish with a small amount of vegetable oil. A ceramic or glass heat-resistant form is suitable. Place the cabbage and smooth it out. Wash the bay leaf and add to the cabbage.

Step 11

Step 11
Place pieces of fried fillet on top.

Step 12

Step 12
Cover the top of the pan with foil and place in an oven preheated to 180 C for 45-50 minutes. Cooking time will depend on the quality and juiciness of the cabbage. Young, juicy cabbage cooks faster.

Step 13

Step 13
After about 35 minutes, very carefully, so as not to burn yourself, open the foil at one end and check the cabbage for softness. If it is not cooked enough, continue baking the dish until done. Cooking time and mode may vary. Consider the operating features of your oven.

Step 14

Step 14
Mix the finished cabbage with the meat, cover the dish with foil and let stand for 10 minutes. Then serve. Bon appetit!
