Ingredients (5 portions)

For dough:

Olive oil 1 tbsp
Salt 0.5 tsp
Sugar 0.5 tbsp
Wheat flour 110 g
Water 70 ml
Dry yeast 0.5 tsp

Filling:

Hard cheese 120 g
Olives 40 g
Semi-smoked sausage 70 g
Cherry tomatoes 3 pc
Tomato sauce 3 tbsp

Pour warm water into a deep bowl and dissolve salt and sugar in it. The water should be warm to the touch, but not hot, so the yeast will be as comfortable as possible. Sugar is necessary for yeast to maintain vital functions and activate their growth, and salt acts as a natural flavor enhancer in the dough. Without salt, any dough will be bland.

Add olive oil and dry instant yeast. It is understood that the yeast must be one hundred percent fresh, functional and alive. Otherwise, the dough simply will not rise. And although I have never seen anything like this, anything can happen! Therefore, if you are not confident in your yeast, then to be on the safe side it is better to prepare a dough.

Sift premium wheat flour into the dough in parts, kneading the dough first with a spoon and then with your hands. In any baking, it is important not to overdo it with flour. Focus on the consistency of the dough. If it sticks too much to your hands, then gradually add more flour. Even from the same manufacturer, flour in one batch can vary greatly in quality due to the individual characteristics of the grain. Iʼm not even talking about different types of flour!

As soon as the dough stops strong! stick to your hands, itʼs ready. Itʼs better to be light! sticky, which will resemble a basketball in elasticity. There’s no way you can make a delicious pizza out of this kind of dough. Gather the dough into a ball and, covering with cling film, leave to rise in a bowl in a warm place for an hour. Ideal conditions for proofing dough are high humidity and a temperature of about 40 degrees.

After this time, the dough will increase significantly in volume.

You need to knead it with your hand and put it back to proof in a warm place for half an hour. This way the dough will be as fluffy as possible.

Then roll out the dough into a circle with a diameter of approximately 30 centimeters. Thickness is about 5 millimeters. The sides may be slightly thicker than the base. Place the base on a baking sheet lined with a non-stick sheet or greased with oil.

Grease the base with tomato sauce and sprinkle with a third of the total amount of grated cheese.

Place half-smoked sausage, cut into slices, cherry tomatoes, cut into halves. I also added my favorite olives, but this ingredient is optional.

Sprinkle the remaining cheese on top and bake the American pizza in an oven preheated to 180 degrees until the cheese crust is golden brown. It took me about half an hour.
