Recipe instructions

Step 1

Step 1
How to make stuffed pita bread in the oven? Prepare the following ingredients. It is better to take fresh Armenian lavash. If it is in one sheet, then you can take the whole one, or two square sheets. For the sauce, I used 20% fat sour cream and homemade tomato sauce. You can replace the sauce with ketchup, pureed tomatoes or tomato paste. Replace sour cream with mayonnaise if desired.

Step 2

Step 2
Turn on the oven to preheat to 180 degrees. Place a sheet of pita bread on the table. If there are two of them, then lay them on top of each other. In a bowl, mix sour cream (set aside a tablespoon of sour cream), tomato sauce, add salt and other spices to taste. You can also add a spoonful of mustard for a little spiciness. Mix the sauce thoroughly and spread evenly over the entire area of the pita bread, not reaching a few centimeters to the edge.

Step 3

Step 3
Grate the selected cheese on a coarse grater and place evenly on top of the sauce on the pita bread. The amount of cheese and sausage can be increased or decreased to suit your taste. Choose high-quality cheese, without the use of vegetable fats, as the taste of the dish will depend on this.

Step 4

Step 4
Cut the sausage into bars or cubes and place evenly on top of the cheese.

Step 5

Step 5
Wash the tomatoes under running water, dry and cut into rings or half rings. Place the chopped tomato on top of the sausage.

Step 6

Step 6
Wash bell peppers under running water and dry. Remove seeds and stalks from the pepper. Cut the peppers into small squares and place on top of the tomatoes.

Step 7

Step 7
Rinse fresh dill under running water and dry. Chop finely and sprinkle dill evenly over the filling on the pita bread. You can use any other fresh herbs to suit your taste.

Step 8

Step 8
Wrap the pita bread with filling, trying to roll the filling tightly. Place the roll in a baking pan (optionally lined with parchment or greased with butter), seam side down. Instead of a mold, you can place the pita bread on a baking sheet. Grease the roll with the reserved sour cream and place the pan with stuffed pita bread in an oven preheated to 180 degrees for about 15 minutes. The times are approximate, be guided by the features of your oven.

Step 9

Step 9
Remove the finished stuffed roll from the oven and let it cool slightly. Cut the pita bread into pieces 2 — 3 centimeters thick. Stuffed pita bread can be served either hot or cooled — in any form this appetizer is very tasty and juicy. Bon appetit!
