Cheesy Baked Potato Casserole

Made from simple ingredients, but very tasty and filling! A casserole of raw potatoes with cheese in the oven can be served as a separate dish, or as a side dish for meat dishes. It turns out to be incomparable: tender potatoes inside, and a fragrant, golden-brown cheese crust on top!

How to make a casserole of raw potatoes with cheese in the oven? Prepare all ingredients. In the store, it is better to buy potatoes marked “for boiling”, since raw potatoes are used for casseroles, and when baked in the oven, such potatoes will cook quite quickly. Use hard cheese: Russian, Poshekhonsky and similar types of cheese. Eggs category C1.

Grate the hard cheese on a coarse grater. It is better to use cheese that has just been taken out of the refrigerator, as it will be easier to grate. There is no need to grate the cheese finely, since at high temperatures in the oven it will melt in any case, regardless of the fine or coarse grater you choose.

Place half of the grated cheese into a bowl and crack 1 chicken egg into it, stir. We will need this cheese and egg mixture for the top of the casserole. Thanks to it, an appetizing golden crust forms on the surface of the casserole.

Place the other half of the grated cheese in another clean, larger bowl. Beat in the remaining chicken egg, add mayonnaise and garlic cloves passed through a press. Stir.

Now start preparing the potato base. It must be cooked last so that it does not have time to darken. Wash the potatoes, peel and grate coarsely. There are two options here. First: using a kitchen grater. Second: using a blender, grind the potatoes in a blender using a disc with a coarse grater.

Place the grated potatoes in a bowl with a mixture of cheese, eggs, mayonnaise and garlic. Salt, pepper, mix thoroughly so that all ingredients are well combined.

Prepare the pan in which you will bake the potato casserole. I use a small diameter mold (20 cm). Using a pastry brush, grease the bottom and sides of the pan with vegetable oil. Pour in the potato-cheese mixture and smooth out. Place the next layer of cheese and egg mixture and smooth it out as well.

Place the casserole dish of raw potatoes with cheese in an oven preheated to 180°C and bake for about 40 minutes. During this time, the mass should set and turn golden. The duration and temperature of baking may vary depending on the temperature and design of your oven.
