How to make a casserole with meat and potatoes in the oven? Prepare your food. If you have yesterdayʼs mashed potatoes, then skip the step of preparing mashed potatoes. You can replace minced chicken with pieces of meat or boiled meat. Use minced meat either ready-made or prepared yourself.

Prepare mashed potatoes. How to make puree? Peel the potatoes, cover with cold water, add salt and put on the stove to cook. After boiling, cook over medium heat until tender, 20-30 minutes, depending on the size of the pieces and the type of potato. Check readiness with a sharp knife — it should easily pierce the tubers.

Drain the water from the finished potatoes and mash them into a puree using a masher or blender. Add butter, hot milk or cream, mix everything thoroughly. The puree should not turn out liquid, adjust the amount of liquid.

Wash the carrots and onions, peel and chop. Heat a frying pan with vegetable oil and fry the onions and carrots for 5 minutes over low heat. Add the minced chicken and, stirring constantly, breaking up large pieces with a wooden spatula, fry the minced meat until cooked through, 15-20 minutes. Add salt, pepper and any spices to taste.

Grease a baking dish — it can be a large form or several small ones — with a small amount of vegetable oil. Place half of the mashed potatoes on the bottom of the pan, then the minced meat fried with vegetables.

Top with remaining mashed potatoes. Using a fork, create a ribbed surface if desired. In addition, there are options here: you can sprinkle grated cheese, you can lay out pieces of butter, or you can fill the surface with sour cream or a mixture of eggs and milk — all as desired. I baked it simply with uncovered mashed potatoes. Place the potato casserole dish in an oven preheated to 180 for 15-20 minutes or until golden brown.
