Recipe instructions

Step 1

Step 1
How to bake stuffed onions in the oven? First of all, prepare all the necessary products. To brighten the finished dish, I used two types of onions — regular onions and red lettuce. Use onions that are approximately the same size so that they cook evenly and at the same time later.

Step 2

Step 2
Peel the onions, leave the tails on both sides, this will allow the onions not to fall apart during the boiling process.

Step 3

Step 3
Pour water into a ladle or small saucepan, lightly salt it, place it on the stove over high heat, after boiling, place the onions in boiling water, reduce the heat to medium and cook for about 20 minutes. Next, drain the boiling water and place the boiled onions in cold water for a few seconds.

Step 4

Step 4
Prepare the filling. Cut the ham into small cubes; I used a ready-made chopped product. Beat in the egg and mix.

Step 5

Step 5
Add a little more than half of the grated cheese, breadcrumbs and garlic to the ham.

Step 6

Step 6
Next, add a mixture of ground peppers, a pinch of nutmeg and parsley to the filling. Instead of parsley, I used a mixture of frozen Provençal herbs. Mix everything thoroughly.

Step 7

Step 7
Cut each onion in half, as in the photo.

Step 8

Step 8
Carefully remove the centers using a teaspoon, leaving only 2-3 outer rings. The cores can be used in the future, for example, for making soup.

Step 9

Step 9
Fill each onion with the filling, place in a baking dish and pour a little vegetable or olive oil on top. Place the onions in the preheated oven.

Step 10

Step 10
Bake at a temperature of 180-200 degrees for about 30-40 minutes (focus on the capabilities of your oven and that the onions acquire a slightly golden hue). Sprinkle the remaining cheese on top and place in the oven for another 10-15 minutes.
