Ingredients (10 portions)

Basic:

Salt 0.5 tsp
Wheat flour 300 g
Butter 15 g
Milk (or water or a mixture of milk and water) 150 ml
Honey (with a slide or sugar) 1 tsp
Hard cheese 35 g
Basil (fresh chopped or to taste, can be replaced with other fresh herbs) 2 tbsp
Yeast (fresh pressed or 1 tsp. dry active) 12 g

Recipe instructions

Step 1

Step 1
To prepare the sticks, we need flour (I used first-grade bread), warm milk, soft butter, hard cheese, honey or sugar, yeast, salt and fresh basil (instead of basil you can use green onions, parsley, dill)

Step 2

Step 2
Dissolve the yeast in warm milk (milk should be about 35-40 C no more) and leave for 5 minutes.

Step 3

Step 3
During this time, grate the cheese on a fine grater and chop the basil.

Step 4

Step 4
Add honey, grated cheese, chopped basil and butter to the yeast (I used half melted). Mix everything thoroughly so that the honey is completely dispersed.

Step 5

Step 5
Sift the flour with salt and add in several additions to the milk mixture. Knead soft dough. If necessary, add a little flour or milk during kneading.

Step 6

Step 6
Roll the dough into a ball.

Step 7

Step 7
Place the dough in a lightly greased bowl and leave in a warm place for 1 hour to rise, during which time the dough should increase in size by 2-3 times.

Step 8

Step 8
Place the risen dough on a floured work surface and stretch it into a rectangle about 5-8 mm thick.

Step 9

Step 9
Cut the dough into strips and form sticks. If you wish, you can either roll the dough strips into a tube or simply twist them into a spiral.

Step 10

Step 10
Place the resulting bread sticks on a baking sheet, grease them with milk if desired (this will make the color more saturated during baking, but this can be omitted) and place in an oven preheated to 200 C for 10-12 minutes (baking time depends on the thickness of the sticks, just be careful Be careful not to over-dry, otherwise you may end up with something like a crispy straw).

Step 11

Step 11
Let the finished sticks cool slightly and serve! Bon appetit!
